Fellow League Presidents,

In Leagues Committee meetings during the past year we have discussed possible changes in our player and adult registration policies and procedures.

Recently the Board of Directors of Massachusetts Youth Soccer voted to implement a change in our registration policy. Effective with registrations for the upcoming soccer year (2010-2011) all players, coaches and administrators will be required to register with each team or organization they are associated with in Mass Youth Soccer. There is no longer a registration exemption for dual-rostered players or adults working in multiple (town and open/club) organizations.

Thus, a player playing for a town organization, and concurrently playing on a MAPLE team, a MASC team, or any other club organization affiliated with Mass Youth Soccer, will need to register and pay a full registration fee with each team.

An adult member will need to register through each organization with which they are involved as either volunteers or as paid staff.

All leagues will need to affiliate their Board of Directors, including ex officio members.

This change is the only way we can assure that all players and adult volunteers in Massachusetts are properly registered, insured, and processed through the CORI system. Further, this revised registration process will help address dual-rostering issues and conflicts.

Most towns and leagues, and a number of the club organizations, are already registering their players and adult volunteers in this manner.

This information will be going out to the town and club registrars late this week, I wanted to give you this ‘heads-up’ so you are prepared for any questions that may arise.

ALSO

Massachusetts Youth Soccer is very pleased to announce that Mike Singleton has been appointed as our new Executive Director, effective immediately.

Mike has been with the organization for over 7 years, first as the State Head Coach and Director of Coaching and then more recently as the Associate Executive Director. Having worked in both these capacities, Mike has a thorough knowledge of our organization and its membership, and is enthusiastic to hit the ground running.

The Board of Directors is confident that that his combined experience with issues relating to both technical and administrative aspects of the game will bring an encompassing vision to all matters and issues facing Massachusetts Youth Soccer and will assure we serve the needs of our membership to the best of our abilities.

Ted Ritchie, President of Massachusetts Youth Soccer said: “Mike’s familiarity with our organization’s particular needs and direction, and his vision for the future growth of Massachusetts Youth Soccer, make him a terrific leadership choice. I look forward to working with him.”

Ted Ritchie
MYSA President
